A new free update for Stranded Deep will add a multiplayer co-op mode to the game, allowing players to fight and survive together on a stranded island. The update will go live on September 28 for the PS4 and PS5 and will be entirely free for those who already own the game.

Players control a plane crash survivor stranded in the Pacific Ocean, exploring stranded islands as well as the tropical seas to find a way home. Like many other survival games, players will have to manage thirst, hunger, and even exposure to keep in shape for fights against sharks, boar, and giant squid. As the game progresses, players will travel from island to island to obtain new materials and craft new weapons, eventually unlocking the ability to create helicopters for easier traversal.

The fan community surrounding the game had been asking for a multiplayer mode ever since the game’s 2020 release. Fortunately, Beam Team has answered those calls with this latest update. Players can now do everything from building a shelter to punching sharks and even fly a plane together. However, it looks like the mode is limited to two players per session.

Stranded Deep was released earlier last year for the PS4, and is the first console title by the relatively small Australia-based studio Beam Team. The studio was initially going to publish the game under Telltale, which ultimately went bankrupt back in 2018. Luckily, Beam Team co-founders Ben and Sam were able to buy back their publishing rights, and self-published the game for the PS4. Stranded Deep is available on the PS4 and PS5, as well as PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
