Panzer Dragoon: Voyage Record is an upcoming PlayStation VR shooter game that lets players relive some of the best moments of the three Panzer Dragoon games that were released for the SEGA Saturn. However, its development status is now uncertain following a pair of now deleted tweets on the game’s official account that announced Voyage Record’s cancellation and falsely reported the death of developer Wildman Inc.’s CEO Haruto Watanabe.

The tweets, which announced the “news” in English and Japanese, were deleted a few hours after they were posted. As recorded by ResetEra, they read:

Panzer Dragoon Voyage Record has been cancelled due to the cancellation of the contract by Sega and the death of the producer, Haruto Watanabe, CEO of Wildman Inc.

Thank you for your support.

After friends rushed to Watanabe’s address, they were able to confirm the CEO was actually alive and well. One of those friends, known as izm on Twitter, said a more detailed statement about the bizarre situation would be issued once things have calmed down. The part about SEGA pulling the game’s license and contract is yet to be confirmed either way, leaving the development status of the game in limbo at the moment.

Voyage Record was announced on Panzer Dragoon‘s 25th anniversary in March 2020. Described as a “dramatic shooter,” the game aims to let players relive several of the episodes that took place throughout Panzer Dragoon, Panzer Dragoon Zwei, and Panzer Dragoon Saga. The graphics are remastered to fit the first person view in the PSVR headset while VR controllers would be used as the dragon rider’s handgun.

Panzer Dragoon: Voyage Record was originally due to be released during the fiscal year that ended in March 2021. This was then delayed when Wildman Inc. made the decision to delay crowdfunding for the game. A new release window was already uncertain, but now it’s unclear whether the game will actually be released at all. Watanabe is yet to comment on the situation.
