Starward Industries has delayed its “single-player sci-fi retro-future thriller” The Invincible from its original 2021 release window. The game will now release at some point next year. However, the good news is a new trailer shows a first glimpse of The Invincible in action, as Dr. Yasna tries to escape a strange planet known as Regis III.

The Invincible is based on Stainslaw Lem’s novel of the same name. Set in an alternative retro-future timeline, The Invincible places players in the astronaut suit of Dr. Yasna, a scientist taking part in an interstellar scientific expedition. When the crew of her spaceship goes missing, she needs to use advanced analogue space equipment to find them while avoiding the planet’s many perils. The trailer shows Yasna communicating with her Astrogator Novik as she climbs a rock face against his advice to get a better view. While she finds the person she’s looking for, he’s not too happy to see her…

Yasna’s journey will offer multiple paths and, as a result, multiple endings. Her decisions will affect her relationships, while Yasna’s persuasive skills are sure to get her out of some tight spots. They may even help her in the events that take place after the trailer. While the Astrogator can guide Yasna, he’s quite some distance away and only she will face the consequences of her decisions.

While the technology in The Invincible is quite advanced, it’s an alternate reality where the digital age hasn’t happened. The result is a variety of analogue equipment that can help her on her mission. One of those items seen in the trailer was a scanning device that is able to detect enemies, although apparently not soon enough. Despite this analog reality, humankind has managed to spread far and wide across the galaxy, and it is during the exploration of Regis III that things go awry. Players can have a go with the equipment themselves next year, now that The Invincible is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2022.
