In the latest rumor to travel around the gaming sphere, French outlet Rockstar Magazine is claiming Red Dead Redemption Remastered is in early development at Rockstar. As translated by Dark Side of Gaming, the magazine didn’t specify any platforms but did say the remaster would be along the same lines as the upcoming Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.

Red Dead Redemption Remastered is apparently in the early stages of development and is a long way off from release. No platforms were mentioned, although it is fair to assume it will mean PC and current consoles. Depending on how long it takes for the remaster to be completed, it may not be released for the PS4 generation of consoles, however. While Rockstar Magazine does have a track record in revealing leaks about Rockstar’s games, as always, these rumors need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

If the remaster is to be done in a similar style to Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, this means it will have “across-the-board upgrades” while “still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals.” A previously leaked description taken from the trilogy’s store page indicates this could include “brilliant new lighting and environmental upgrades, high-resolution textures, increased draw distances, Grand Theft Auto V-style controls and targeting, and much more.” While Red Dead Redemption is unlikely to need as much of an overhaul as that aimed at games a generation older, we can still expect similar improvements if the rumor is indeed true.

Rockstar seems to have firmly jumped onto the remaster bandwagon. Back in May, parent company Take-Two Interactive confirmed they had three unannounced remasters/remakes in development alongside the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Grand Theft Auto V and Kerbal Space Program, and a standalone version of Grand Theft Auto Online. Those remasters were assumed to be the three titles included in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, but it could be that counted as one and we still have two to be revealed. As always, we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we hear anything.
