Brian Traficante, creative director of the Saints Row reboot, has said that Volition’s target since day one has been to be the “kings of customization” with the upcoming title.

Speaking to Game Informer, Traficante said that he wants Saints Row fans to have all of the customization options that the franchise is known for, plus new options.

“Customization is one of the definitive things that Saints Row is known for,” chief creative officer Jim Boone added during the same interview. “Not just the characters, but even the vehicles. And in Saints Row IV, we introduced weapon customization. It’s extremely woven into the DNA to the degree where I feel like if you don’t have customization, it’s hard to say that you’re a full Saints Row game.”

Art Director Frank Marquart teased that Volition has been able to achieve “dreams” by being able to do things that weren’t possible before. However, he didn’t go into any further details.

Saints Row will allow players to retain their customization options when playing the co-op mode. “Each co-op player looks exactly how you have customized them when in a co-op session,” Boone reassured. “All the customization options you have entered will be on full display without limited.”

Saints Row will release on February 25, 2022 for the PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, and PC. An official overview of the title reads:

As the future Boss, with Neenah, Kevin, and Eli by your side, you’ll form The Saints—and take on Los Panteros, The Idols, and Marshall as you build your empire across the streets of Santo Ileso and battle for control of the city. Ultimately Saints Row is the story of a start-up company, it’s just that the business The Saints are in happens to be crime.
