It’s been another big week in the Nintendo Life, with a significant arrival on the Switch. That’s Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl of course, which we naturally reviewed for your reading / viewing pleasure. Elsewhere there was continuing fallout for GTA Trilogy with the Digital Foundry analysis, Animal Crossing kept serving up fun new surprises, Metroid Dread got a GOTY nomination, the Wii U is actually getting a new game and we’ve celebrated anniversaries for GameCube and Wii. Phew!

Now, though, it’s time to chill out and discuss our weekend gaming plans. A few members of the Nintendo Life team have done just that below, so feel free to give our entries a read and then join in with your own via our comment section. Enjoy!

This week I shall mostly be avoiding the Switch eShop like the plague. I’ve already succumbed to a couple of Cyber Deals – I couldn’t resist getting Okami again for Switch OLED-related reasons – so I should really set about playing some of the games I’ve bought.

In fact, I’m planning on making some more progress through Metroid Dread. I’m guessing I’m about halfway through, but I’ve been taking my time meandering and hunting down extra Missile Tanks. It’s such a slick game that I’m a little worried about going back to previous entries now. Samus has always had a unique staccato style of movement that takes time to adjust to, but after slip-sliding and zipping about the place in Dread, I have the feeling that the old games will feel slow when I revisit them. Still, whaddagame.

I’ve been looking through my eShop wishlist to see if any are part of the Cyber Deals, and will probably pick up Panzer Paladin for a bit of weekend fun. I’ll likely also fire up Rocket League just to play its best mode – Heatseeker.

Elsewhere I’ll probably continue to play the Halo Infinite Multiplayer beta, which is rather good, and still need to get back to my lengthy journey through Mass Effect Legendary Edition.

I’m still playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons! Which, in itself, is wonderful — I was worried I’d fall off it again. But this time I’m taking it nice and slow!.

Hey folks! No Pokémon for me this weekend as I’m skipping the latest release. Instead, I’m jumping into some familiar comforts with Super Mario Odyssey and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. In terms of pure gameplay, they’re simply two of the best games on the Switch, and I’ll happily play them anytime, anywhere.

Over on the Series X, it’s all about Halo Infinite, baby. Despite some ongoing issues with progression and overall content, I can’t believe how well 343 have nailed the gameplay; it’s sublime. If the campaign delivers a strong narrative, then I think it’s safe to say 343 have fully redeemed themselves.

Another lovely weekend in the company of the Switch and the Wii. I’m still quite hooked on Gas Guzzlers Extreme but will need to find some time to sink into the brilliant Tails of Iron. Geometry Wars: Galaxies continues to be a great reminder that in my advanced age I must learn to enjoy the taste of humble pie. Should I have some company over both Double Dragon IV and Double Dragon Neon just arrived in their glorious physical editions.

Game of the week is 1CC classic Space Moth: Lunar Edition. A marvellous way to spend the time while waiting for next week’s DoDonPachi Resurrection.

As always, thanks for reading! Make sure to leave us a comment below with your weekend gaming plans!
