Destruction AllStars developer Lucid Games is working on an “unannounced first-party flagship AAA IP for the PlayStation 5”. The existence of the game was revealed through a developer’s LinkedIn profile that was found by Twitter user Timur222. The discovery is currently fuelling rumors that the developer is working on a Twisted Metal revival.

The AAA IP was announced on the LinkedIn profile of Technical Game Designer Drew Williams-Rostron, who worked at Lucid Games in that role from August 2020 until October 2021. The unannounced first-party flagship AAA IP would fit in nicely with the rumors that have suggested the developer is reviving the Twisted Metal franchise. There hasn’t been a game in the franchise since the release of Twisted Metal on PlayStation 3 in 2012. Reports suggest the new game will be a free-to-play title that is set to release in 2023 alongside the Twisted Metal live-action series in production at Sony Pictures Television.

In the meantime, Lucid Games also continues to work on their free-to-play destruction derby game Destruction AllStars and they’re putting together another large update for January 2022. The update will include a redesign of the game’s main menu to focus more on party members and player skins. The HUD has also been updated, seeing some items removed and others enhanced to give a clearer picture of what’s going on in game.

New visual effects will be added to in-game actions like double jump and vehicle slams. However, the Wreckognition System will be getting the biggest update of them all. At the moment, the Hero Vehicle and AllStar Breaker abilities charge passively throughout the game. After the January update, this will not be the case. Instead, players will have to perform actions like takeovers, evades and wrecking opponents to actively charge both skills. Lucid Games promises more details on this in the future.

Once the match has finished, the post match screens have received an overhaul too. XP earned will be broken down so players can easily see their strengths and weaknesses. The following post match screen will then allow players to show off skins, avatars, banners and emotes. On this screen, players can also view the full match scoreboard, give players accolades, exit to the main menu, or jump straight back into matchmaking.

The update will be released on January 26. The current HotShots AllStar Pass will also be ending on that date. As this is the update on which the team is focusing, they’ve also clarified there won’t be any festive seasonal content introduced this month, so you’ll need to get your snow, ice and bright lights fix elsewhere.
