Sony has released a list of the most downloaded PlayStation games of 2021. Separated by console generation and free to play, the list gives fans the big picture on last year’s most popular titles. New releases such as NBA 2K22, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Call of Duty: Vanguard were among the most downloaded titles for PS5. Meanwhile, the PS4 saw the continued popularity of older games such as Grand Theft Auto VMinecraft, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

There’s a big popularity difference between PS5 and PS5

While it’s no surprise that different games will be popular depending on which console generation you’re looking at, there seem to be almost zero overlaps between the two generations. Similar to December 2021 sales figuresMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales stood right beside Call of Duty: Vanguard. There were also some key differences between the US and EU regions, namely that EU players seem to enjoy games like Kena: Bridge of Spirits and Among Us more than other AAA titles.

As with past years, games like Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone continue to dominate the free-to-play market. Both US and EU regions saw these games, as well as others like Rocket League and Genshin Impact at the top spots. Notably, newcomer Splitgate rose to 4th place in the US.
