When a game launches on Game Pass, you kind of expect it to cost some cash a little further down the line. That may well be the case when Citizen Sleeper finally drops out of the scheme, but for now it’s the free love that is of importance. Even more so as the first free DLC drop looks to expand the story.

FLUX is the first of three new story episodes for the critically-acclaimed Citizen Sleeper, the indie hit that hit Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, Nintendo Switch and PC back in May. It’s due to arrive on July 28th at 9am PDT – so that’s 5pm UK time – and will introduce a new storyline and new characters.

Citizen Sleeper comes from indie publisher Fellow Traveller and developer Jump Over The Age, and those teams have promised two more free expansions a little further down the line. For now though it’s FLUX, the first of those three which is most of interest.

Pressures in the Helion system have brought the first ships of a refugee flotilla to Erlin’s Eye and it’s here where you will meet and help those that get on-station before the quarantine locks them out. FLUX will kick off a new overarching storyline that plays out across all three episodes, expanding on the wider narrative of the Helion System, the star system in which the Eye orbits.

The storyline will also introduce a number of new characters, the first being Eshe, captain of the Climbing Briar. A stubborn and driven spacer, Eshe’s fate becomes tangled up with the flotilla. Expect her story to challenge you in how to deal with a growing crisis that could threaten the entire station.

In FLUX, you’ll also cross paths with Peake, the second member of the Climbing Briar’s crew. They have a cooler head than their captain and an ability to disappear when necessary. The player will get to know more about them as they make a plan to get much needed relief through the quarantine to the refugee flotilla.

For free, if you’re a Citizen Sleeper player, then July 28th should be noted in your diary. If you haven’t yet played the game, we highly advise you do – check out our review if you need further selling. You’ll find it on the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, with that Game Pass love meaning there is no reason to not get involved. It’s on Switch and PC via Steam, GOG, Epic and Humble too. Its pretty much everywhere, except PlayStation.
