During last night’s Annapurna Interactive Showcase, it was revealed What Remains of Edith Finch would be getting a native PS5 version and those who already owned the game on PS4 would get a free upgrade. Unfortunately, it seems like there’s the usual PS Plus caveat to this. Players who downloaded the PS4 version of What Remains of Edith Finch when it was free on PS Plus Essential are seemingly not able to get the free PS5 upgrade.

Another PS5 upgrade that’s unavailable for the PS Plus Version

What Remains of Edith Finch

What Remains of Edith Finch on PS5 has up to 4K resolution and 60fps. The rumored upgrade was confirmed and released during the show yesterday and was supposed to be free for all players who own the game on PS4, but ResetEra members have realized that if they grabbed the game through PS Plus Essential, they’re not eligible for the free PS5 version. This move is something PS Plus players have gotten used to although it is occasionally overturned. PS4 players who downloaded Final Fantasy VII Remake were initially ineligible for the PS5 upgrade, although Square Enix went back on that decision and allowed players to get the upgrade six months after its initial release.

The Outer Wilds is another game that will be getting a free PS5 upgrade on September 15. This version will come with 60fps but no more details were revealed during the show. As this game was not released on PS Plus Essential, all players who own the PS4 version already should be able to access the PS5 version.

In other news, a former Xbox boss says Microsoft encouraged console wars to promote a healthy competition but not for fans to turn it into a toxic battle. Elsewhere, PS5 shipments have reached 21.7 million units as PS Plus gains another million subscribers.
