Voting, as always, has been muddled by players creating dummy accounts to vote for the game of their choice, with accusations being thrown around that bots are being deployed to skew results.
Calls for GOTY 2022 Players’ Choice category to be scrapped
Up until a day ago, TGA 2022’s website displayed results of Players’ Choice category in real time but since the backlash, it appears that the results have been scrubbed from the website. Google cache shows that the website was updated to remove the live results recently. In response to the tweet below, fans are calling for the Players’ Choice category to be scrapped entirely because of communities rallying to create dummy accounts, rendering the award pointless.

Interestingly, The Game Awards’ jury is often accused of being biased. Host Geoff Keighley responded to this sentiment recently, arguing that the Players’ Choice category ends up being more controversial, and it’s impossible to leave voting entirely up to the community for this reason.
