Sony has revealed their PSVR 2 Sense controllers will not be sold separately outside of the headset bundles. This means that those wanting a spare pair or even a replacement for a damaged controller will be left needing to buy a whole new headset bundle as things stand.

Will Sense controllers be sold separately in the future?

Sony simply explained in a brand new PSVR 2 FAQ that the Sense controllers are “not sold separately at this time.” There is a possibility that this stance could change in the future, although Sony is staying tight-lipped at the moment. For now, the only way to get your hands on the controllers is to buy the standard PSVR 2 headset bundle or the Horizon Call of the Mountain PSVR 2 bundle.

The rest of the FAQ does hint at potential reasoning for the decision. The Sense controllers will work on the PS5 without the PSVR 2 headset, but only for the console’s user interface and Media application. The controllers will not work with non-PSVR 2 games so they have a very limited use away from the headset. Hopefully, Sony changes its mind, though, because there aren’t many people who would pay for an entire PSVR 2 bundle just to get another controller.
