To say that The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been successful would be a massive understatement. The movie has been available to watch in theaters for a few weeks now, and there has yet to be a single week where the movie has not broken any animation box office records.

Its third weekend in theaters was no exception. It has been reported by The Warp that Nintendo and Illumination’s movie received another $58,000,000 in the United States’ box office in its third weekend. This breaks yet another animation box office record. Universal is now expecting that, before this weekend is over, the movie will surpass $850,000,000 worldwide.

If so, it has the opportunity to pass the $939,000,000 global total that Minions: The Rise of Gru grossed. That would make The Super Mario Bros. Movie the highest-grossing animated film in the post-COVID shutdown era. Even if it doesn’t do that worldwide, the Mario movie is expected to reach $434,000,000 in North Americaalone by the end of this weekend. This would surpass Minions: The Rise of Gru’s domestic box office total.
