From the second we set eyes on Strayed Lights, interest levels rose. And the more we took in, the more we got excited. Now, finally, that game arrives, as the jaw-dropping, pulse-pounding Strayed Lights releases on PC and console.

Available right now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam, Epic, GoG), Strayed Lights from the development team at Embers will see you taking on the role of a tiny light, one that grows as it embarks on a quest for transcendence and confronts daunting creatures residing inside and out.

But Strayed Lights is trying much, and as we found out in our exclusive interview with the Embers team, this is one in which your faith in colour will dictate success. See, throughout, you will need to shift between colored states of being to parry enemy attacks and, if timed correctly, absorb your foe’s energy for fierce high-damage strikes. Only by mastering the rhythm of the game’s combat flow to quell the unrest of colossal beings gone rogue will you be able to purify them of emotional torment.

Strayed Lights’ easy-to-learn yet hard-to-master combat system will lie at the heart of the game’s hauntingly beautiful world of shimmering fauna and mysterious ruins. With the key features then sitting as…

  • HARNESS ENERGY IN COMBAT – Challenge rogue shadow creatures in fast-paced, rewarding combat. Use a fluid mix of parries and dodges to absorb their energy levels until you can unleash an ultra energy attack. Shift your light from blue to orange in sync with enemies using timed parries, then push energy back at them in vivid finishers.
  • CONFRONT CREATURES WITHIN AND WITHOUT – Monsters pursue you across otherworldly regions of mists, tall trees and luminescent ruins. Enjoy evocative boss fights with colossal shadow creatures gone rogue, as well as rhythmic duels with a variety of eerie creatures.
  • GROW AND ASCEND – Build up a unique character that can harness energy to let loose bold attacks. Unlock new abilities and grow from a tiny light to a pseudo-mystical entity imbued with vivid powers.
  • EXPLORE A MYSTERIOUS LAND – Strayed Lights is set in a dark and oneiric world that is as vivid as it is mysterious.Journey alongside a haunting soundtrack that reflects states of feeling in creatures you encounter created by Austin Wintory, composer behind Journey ®, ABZÛ, and The Banner Saga series.

Further, Strayed Lights’ official 120-page digital art book and soundtrack composed by the Grammy award-nominated Austin Wintory are also available for purchase. Let us know in the comments if you decide to grab that.

“We are delighted for action adventure fans to begin their journeys through Strayed Lights’ enchanting and kinetic realm today,” says Alexandre Arramon, co-founder and creative director at Embers. “We are incredibly grateful for the positive response we’ve received from the community so far and can’t wait to further immerse players with the colorful new ideas we’ve conceived. For now, we invite everyone to explore Strayed Lights’ meticulously crafted universe by supporting our debut title across modern platforms and diving deeper through the game’s premium artbook and mesmerizing soundtrack by Austin Wintory. Thank you once again for the remarkable feedback to our first project.”

Our review of Strayed Lights is fast approaching. Keep an eye out for that if you need further selling, but otherwise hit up the digital store of your choosing – the Xbox Store sorting out Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players for £20.99, whilst the PlayStation Store will do similar for those on PS4 and PS5. And yes, PC folk aren’t left out either.
