Sold as a Neon White crossed with Mirror’s Edge, with Titanfall and a smattering of Spider-Man, Astral Tracks is the next competitive speedrunner you should be setting eyes on.
Announced by the LAB132 team, Astral Tracks is coming to PC and console soon. And when we say console, we’re going to take a punt on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch options.
Dynamic player movement
It’s the dynamic player movement that is key to how Astral Tracks plays out. Whether it be the chance to swing like Spidey, to wallrun like the finest Titanfall pilots, or to just parkour in similar ways to Mirror’s Edge, it’s that movement which will be the focal point.
Making the most of the abilities to hand, you’ll be tasked with moving through Astral Track’s procedurally generated levels. Completing them in the fastest time possible – like we’ve been doing in Marble It Up! Ultra – will be your goal.
Jumping, dashing, swinging, sliding and wallrunning, whatever you need to use to get through Astral Track’s tracks, they’ll be at your disposal. And what’s more, the game’s variety of movement options encourages you to refine your runs and experiment. Making the most of new approaches to compete for the best times will be an addiction, all as you deal with whatever surprising obstacles the game throws up.
Multiplayer wallrunning
Astral Tracks features both online and local multiplayer support too. And there will be online leaderboards, providing all the motivation you need to jump back in and shave a few seconds off your time. Bragging rights? Yep!
There’s more though and Lab132 promise to push out regular challenges – daily, weekly and monthly. It’s these which will let you see the cyber sci-fi world like never before, bringing players together on the same tracks.
With progress through the game rewarded with unlockable costumes and accessories, grabbed via the in-game currency (there are no microtransactions), customisation levels will be high. From peculiar tin-foil hats to elegant butterfly wings, they’ll all add an outlandish splash of eccentricity to the game’s Marvel-inspired interdimensional sci-fi aesthetics.
The devs are super excited
“We’re really excited to finally be able to reveal Astral Tracks and announce that it’s on its way to PC and consoles,” said LAB132 co-founder Laura Koerting. “Seeing how the world responded to Neon White while we were working on Astral Tracks behind the scenes was really heartening in showing there’s an appetite for indie speedrunners. We’re offering our own unique twist on that with our dynamic movement-based gameplay and procedurally generated stages and we can’t wait to share more.”
