Quantum: Recharged is on Xbox

Over 40 (yes, 40!) years on from the original release, Atari have re-packaged one of the greatest hits. And it comes with a new modern sheen to things. Quantum: Recharged on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC looks, er, just a bit different to the chaotic arcade game of yester-decade. But the high of getting your new best score appears to be there as always. It’s the latest in the Atari line of ‘Recharged’ titles, that includes legendary titles like Asteroids: Recharged and Breakout: Recharged.

Duck & Weave!

Now available on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC platforms, Quantum: Recharged sees the return of a true fan favourite. Piloting a little spaceship with no lasers, missiles or the like in sight, to destroy enemies you must encircle them. Creating a complete shape on the map will vaporise anything caught within it, seeing your points total shoot up. And from there the grin on your face will grow ever wider. Simultaneously, the electronic beats from Megan McDuffee will also ramp up in intensity. It’ll do so as your score increases, all until you crash into a foe, only to do things all over again.

Arcade Mode is likely the first port of call for many. This simply requires you to stay alive as long as possible. Those looking to progress through a campaign should boot up the Challenge Mode, which throws 25 levels of frantic gameplay towards you. The addition of new power-ups, as well as the addition of a co-op buddy, should help out, also.

Key Features

  • What’s Old is New: Use modernized move-sets and powerups to avoid deadly laser attacks from Quarks and stalking Neutrons as you streak across the high-flying battlefield
  • Mode Madness: Two modes of gameplay — Challenge Mode and Arcade Mode — encourage you to either duke it out across 25 unique levels or just survive as long as you can against progressively dangerous waves of enemies
  • Power-Ups: Even the odds with randomly spawning perks like unlimited dodges, enemy freezing abilities, and extra life nodes. One powerup might just turn the tide of the battle, but multiple will pack a serious punch!
  • Co-Op and Leaderboards: Cover more ground with a friend across all modes of play to strategically clear out enemies in tandem and compete in global leaderboards in both Arcade and Challenge modes

Game Description

Over 40 years since its arcade debut, Quantum: Recharged warps the classic arcade title with modern flourishes that have become a staple among the Recharged series. Defeat waves of enemies using your ship to circle around them and create a punishing deadzone. By removing the traditional ability to shoot enemies, this title challenges players to avoid taking damage and progress through increasingly difficult levels.

This Recharged release expands on the classic gameplay with a wider variety of deadly enemies and some new moves to even the odds. Accelerate to make some distance between you and a stalking Neutron and use your dodge to avoid the Quarks’ deadly laser attacks. With two modes of play, you can chase for high scores in both the endless arcade mode or 25 curated levels designed to push your reflexes to the limits.

And, of course, it wouldn’t be a Recharged title without some new beats from Megan McDuffee. Hear the music build in real time as your combo multiplier grows higher and higher. Try not to get hit!
