Stellar Blade PS5 developer Shift Up has reportedly formalized an agreement with Sony Interactive Entertainment to become its first Korean second-party studio. Sony had previously signed an agreement to publish Stellar Blade exclusively on the PS5. The game was originally announced as a multiplatform title called Project Eve.

Stellar Blade PS5 release date has yet to be announced

The report of the second-party development contract comes from Korean news site GameChosun.co.kr. According to a translation of the article, the agreement between Shift Up and Sony was signed on November 24. The article claims that alongside handing over Stellar Blade’s publishing rights to Sony, the studio has joined SIE’s second-party partner program. However, there’s no mention of any other projects beyond Stellar Blade.

Stellar Blade was expected to be released sometime in 2023, but it’s safe to say this release window has been missed. According to GameChosun, new release information will be shared at a later date. The game caught attention when it was originally unveiled at 2021’s PlayStation Showcase, and re-emerged a year later looking visibly improved.

“Eve and her comrades land on the surface to reclaim the extinct Earth and cross paths with a survivor named Adam,” reads an official synopsis. “Eve is then led by Adam to the last surviving city, Xion, where she meets the elder of the town Orcal. In order to serve her mission to save Earth, Eve develops close relationships with the key members of Xion and contributes to rebuilding the city.”
