One of the many first-party games that had been released on the Nintendo Switch this year was Detective Pikachu Returns, a sequel to the game that released on the 3DS years ago. Detective Pikachu Returns has been out for a little over 2 months now, so attention has been turning to Detective Pikachu’s future.

So, it’s no surprise that the topic was discussed in a Famitsu interview with executive producer Tsunekazu Ishihara writer Hiroyuki Jinnai that was translated to English by Nintendo Everything. Jinnai said that “the story of Tim, Pikachu and Harry will come to a close. However, since everyone in the staff loves this talking middle-aged Pikachu, there could be other developments following different threads…?”

Meanwhile, Ishihara said that “we can’t promise anything at this point in time, but if Detective Pikachu Returns is received well and there’s a huge demand from the people, there could be room for more spin-offs as such”. It seems that there’s no future game planned at the moment, but they do seem to be open for one in the future.
