God of War Ragnarok is one of the PS5’s best games, but it isn’t without faults. However, its next update adds a feature that may alleviate one of the game’s most glaring frustrations.

What new features are coming to God of War Ragnarok?

The launch of God of War Ragnarok on PC debuts two new settings. Probably the most requested is the option to receive reduced puzzle hints. That’s right, players won’t have to hear Atreus blurt out the puzzle solution before they get a chance to even look at it.

“A new option in the Gameplay Settings tab, enabling this will reduce the frequency with which you hear puzzle hints from your companions,” reads a PlayStation Blog post.

It does seem companions will reveal puzzle hints with this option enabled, just at a less frequent clip. There is no mention of turning hints off entirely.

The second setting debuting in God of War Ragnarok for PC is the option for cinematic audio descriptions. Enabled from the Audio Accessibility menu, this option plays audio descriptions of visual events during cinematics.

“These descriptions will provide additional contextual information alongside the spoken dialogue to create a more detailed experience for players with low vision,” the blog post says.

The game’s chatty companions sparked a bit of controversy when it launched in 2022. In an interview with MinnMax, Santa Monica Studios’ Matt Sophos and Richard Gaubert admitted it didn’t seem like an issue until it publicly released.

“It didn’t get exposed to us really until after the game came out, because even when it had play tests we never saw feedback about the characters talking too much or spoiling things too quickly,” said Sophos. “The timing for the first hint was too aggressive and should have had a much longer countdown timer before something comes up.”

Santa Monica Studios has also created custom God of War Ragnarok themed streamer alerts. Streamers who want Kratos to greet new subscribers can download the alerts on the developer’s website. Lastly, a fan kit including social media banners and wallpapers are available to download.

God of War Ragnarok is available now on PS5, PS4, and PC.
