In random news, the limited edition PlayStation 30th anniversary PS5 DualSense controller packaging has some interesting regional differences. My controller arrived a little later than usual, upon opening which I realized that my box was different than what I had seen in YouTube unboxing videos, leading me to panic a little. To my relief, I wasn’t duped with a Poly Station knock-off controller. As it turned out, the packaging just varies by region.

How the PlayStation 30th anniversary DualSense packaging differs

In some regions, the outer box of the 30th anniversary controller has white sides. In other regions, the sides of the box are yellow. A quick Google search suggests that this is in line with the original PS1’s packaging, which had some variations.

But here’s where it gets interesting. As seen in the first-ever unboxing video I shared with our readers, the inner box that houses the DualSense is a 30th anniversary branded grey box that looks pretty nifty. I, on the other hand, received a plain white box, as seen in the photo below.

I have since found a number of videos that show some folks popping their DualSense controllers out of a cardboard tray of sorts with PlayStation symbols on it. I’m kind of glad I got an actual box, albeit a boring white one, instead of what looks like a tray that holds eggs.

I can understand the differences in the outer boxes, but would have preferred the grey PS1-themed inner packaging. Oh well. The controller looks nice on my desk and I’m just glad that I didn’t get duped.

Update: The Japanese box really stands out, and it includes the PS1-themed grey inner box to boot.
