PS5 players were greeted with a nice surprise when they turned on their console this morning. A new feature update is currently available bringing nostalgic themes to celebrate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary. The kicker is that they’ll only be available for a limited time. So naturally, fans are hoping Sony will make this new feature permanent.

The new PS5 update adds nostalgic themes for a limited time

For those unaware, the new PS5 feature update adds themes based on PlayStation’s previous four generations. Each theme has its own unique sounds and graphics that celebrate a particular era. Even better is the old school PS1 boot screen, which really is a blast from the past to see and hear. As such, PlayStation fans are voicing their displeasure at the limited nature of the new PS5 update.

A post on ResetEra has several users hoping Sony makes these themes permanent. One user said, “I want every single PS5 owner to use this feature so that Sony realizes that this is something people actually want on PS5 and not keep as a limited time thing.”

“They better go back on this limited time nonsense because this is what we’ve been waiting years for,” says another ResetEra user. “I’m so happy, but this can’t just be a limited time thing.”

A good portion of the comments on that post mirror this. Clearly it’s a feature that PS5 players want. Similar remarks are made in a post on the PS5 subreddit. “This is literally criminal because it’s limited time only,” said a Reddit user. “Please make it permanent.”

Another PS5 subreddit post is acting as a petition in hopes that Sony sees it and decides to make the themes and boot screen permanent. The effectiveness of this tactic is questionable, but it does show some PlayStation fans are passionate about the new anniversary update.

We’ll have to see if Sony makes these settings permanent, but for the time being, enjoy them while they last.
