As a UK developer, when the pandemic restricted travel, the choice of which route in the mainland UK we should tackle next was obvious. We’d had a lot of requests for a route in Cornwall, the UK’s most South-Westerly region, and we could see why – it has beautiful countryside, amazing beaches and lovely towns.
The “Great Western Railway” was originally built in the 1830s, known as the Holiday Line, shuttling Victorian holiday-makers back and forth to some of the most popular resorts of the time. The railway has obviously been upgraded in the time since, and it remains a hugely popular route today.
For the West Cornwall Local route we’re bringing a new train to Train Sim World 2, the Class 150/2, which is in Regional Railways livery. It’s a diesel multiple-unit passenger train designed to run at 75 mph (121 km/h), that’s still in service across various parts of the UK.
Also included are a Class 37 diesel-locomotive that we’ve updated to match the version most commonly seen on the route. And the route also includes two wagons; the Turbot and the Seacow, meaning there’s a huge array of gameplay options regardless whether you enjoy moving passengers along slower scenic parts of the route, or speed freight along the mainline sections. We’ve also included a controllable train wash, and a refueling line at Long Rock Depot in Penzance to create even more variety.
As well as the 5 scenarios, and 67 services, we had fun hiding collectibles such as tourist posters and luggage trolleys over the length of the route – it’s up to you to find them all! And as if that wasn’t challenging enough, those that earn the Mastery reward might encounter a Kraken, the legendary sea monster, as well!
With its beautiful beaches, rolling countryside and bustling towns, wide variety of gameplayer options, including the extra branch to St Ives, West Cornwall Local for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S has something for everyone. You can pick up Train Sim World 2 with Xbox Game Pass and this new route to explore is available now.

Opened in 1867, the Cornish Main Line weaves its way through the landscape linking Cornwall to the rest of the country. Brunel originally built the line to his unique 7ft “broad gauge”, but in 1892 the route was converted to standard gauge. For those areas not reached by the main line, branches sprawl out to serve local communities, such as the St Ives Bay Line.
It’s your job to take charge of the various services on this scenic route; carry passengers through the Cornish Countryside on local services and shuttle to and fro along the St Ives branch with the Regional Railways BR Class 150/2. Alternatively, take on the challenge of freight over the hills with the BR Class 37/5.
