P.T.-inspired psychological horror game Luto will release sometime in 2022 for the PS4 and PS5 as well as PC via Steam. Developer Broken Bird games announced the new release window alongside a new trailer, which gives players a glimpse into what type of dangers they may face.
The indie horror title was showcased earlier this summer as part of Sony Interactive Entertainment Spain’s PlayStation Talents initiative. Developing Luto is Spain-based indie outfit Broken Bird Games. As hinted in the last released trailer, Luto puts players in the shoes of a man who cannot leave his home and features dark themes centered around grief and depression.
“The worst part about Hell is not the flames, it’s the hopelessness…”
Luto is a psychological horror narrative experience that explores the grief of losing a loved one, the fear of the darkness that lurks behind anxiety and depression…

While the last trailer didn’t give us much to go off of, the new announcement gives us more details about the Luto’s potential threats. Besides anxiety and depression being key factors, a cloaked figure looks to be haunting the protagonist in his own home. The dimly-lit corridors are also vividly reminiscent of Hideo Kojima’s shuttered P.T. demo. There’s also a newly revealed desert environment, as well as some interesting architecture and paintings that could hint at something more ancient.
Luto’s new Steam store page also outlines a few of the game’s key features:
- Dynamic narrative environment.
- Environmental and sensory horror.
- Depiction of anxiety and depression through mourning.
- Exploration of different phobias (monophobia, claustrophobia, agoraphobia, nyctophobia…)
The last aspect is particularly interesting, as it mentions various fears including agoraphobia (the fear of being in situations where escape is difficult) and nyctophobia (fear of darkness or the night). Judging by the trailer, it’s pretty clear that Luto will have plenty of those situations to contend with.
