Megaquarium is a theme park management tycoon game with an aquatic twist. You design displays, look after your fish, manage your staff, and keep your guests happy. Freshwater Frenzy is the first Deluxe Expansion for Megaquarium on console. Adding a freshwater-focused campaign with five levels, there’s a brand new environment for you to explore, master, and learn new ways to overcome fresh(water) challenges. Here are five ways to master the new challenges that Freshwater animals bring to Megaquarium.

Freshwater Frenzy adds 30 new species of freshwater fish, from the prehistoric Arapaima to the well-known piranha. There are seven new tanks to accommodate these new fish, new care requirements to understand, and challenging new aquascaping conditions to meet. Do your new fresh inhabitants need floating cover or bogwood? You’ll need to provide everything they need to keep them happy!

For the first time ever in Megaquarium you’ll be able to rear baby animals in your aquarium! A selection of the new fish are breedable, each with its own set of unique breeding requirements, from a special location to lay their eggs, to a specific temperature, it is important to get the environment right to encourage breeding. You’ll then have to raise these baby animals and make sure you’re giving them your constant attention.

Alongside breeding, you’ll also be able to hybridise some species, with selective breeding you’ll be able to create colour and pattern combinations that you love. By pairing specific animals together, you’ll increase your chances of getting the exact hybrid you want. Look out for a DNA icon to see which animals you hybridise!

If that doesn’t sound like enough of a challenge, then let me introduce you to pH scales. Some of the animals will require you to maintain a specific pH in their tanks, but how will you do it? You can do this by using passive sources, or by allowing the machines to do the heavy lifting. It’s completely up to you.

Freshwater Frenzy also adds some new animals: reptiles. The Eastern Long-necked Turtle, Dwarf Crocodile, and Green Anaconda to be exact. These animals all need land and water, and there are new tank designs that accommodate them called Beach Tanks. As well as the new Beach Tanks, there are new tanks that have suspended platforms, allowing your guests to see tanks from a whole new view.

You’ll be able to spread this knowledge to the people who visit your aquarium, too. There are a number of new accessories added with Freshwater Frenzy, one of those being posters that can teach your visitors facts, and also be a little bit of fun. Their value relies on the contents of the connected tank, so make sure you design your exhibits carefully! The other accessories coming to Megaquarium in Freshwater Frenzy are a backpack which doubles the food carrying capacity of the staff member, sneakers which increases the speed of the wearer, a feeding stick which increases the feeding skill of the user, or a tool belt which adds a boost to the fixing skill of the wearer. Be warned though – they can only be assigned one at a time!
