This year is certainly moving along, and as we head into Spring (for you Northern Hemisphere readers) we can reflect on more excellent recent eShop titles. This month’s voting in the team was intriguing, and we’ve been left with three excellent games.
These awards aim to celebrate the best of Nintendo’s digital store, giving some love and attention to the games that could so easily be missed in the Switch’s ever-growing download library. It’s worth noting we’ve focus on download-only games and not expansions / DLC, so the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass Wave 1 was not included. It was also a month with quite a few notable retail games, but of course this is all about eShop games.
So, let’s get started. Here are the best Switch eShop games of March 2022!
Honourable Mentions:
While these titles didn’t quite make our top three this month, they’re still certainly worth checking out:
Publisher: Digerati / Developer: Glee Cheese
It was a very close thing with Dawn of the Monsters, but A Musical Story claims this month’s bronze.
Developed by Glee Cheese, this is a very unique take on the rhythm music genre. Visually and stylistically it has a ’70s vibe that is, well, groovy, but it’s also a game that puts the music front and centre. The focus of this game is to really focus on listening to the music, not watch a conventional rhythm track on the screen. That can lead to a bit of a learning curve, but the instinctive play can be a treat when it ‘clicks’.
Our review breaks down how it works.
Developed by 13AM Games and published by WayForward, this is a love letter to Kaiju movies.
As you can see from the art and any footage you see, this is a belt scroller that lets you feel like a big monster causing mayhem. Everything is stylistically almost comic-like, with a setting designed to satisfy monster movie fans. It’s particularly fun in local co-op, and you can enjoy the powerful combat with four different characters.
It’s a pretty unique offering on Switch and we liked it a lot in our review.
FAR: Lone Sails was a game that captured our imagination back in 2019, so the arrival of FAR: Changing Tides right at the start of March was hugely welcome.
This time around, as the name suggests, you’re keeping a large boat afloat for your journey, as you manage and maintain the craft to keep moving. Not only is the narrative hugely effective, but the presentation is also pleasingly good in this Switch version, from beautiful music cues to crisp visuals. We gave it a 9/10 in our review; below is its conclusion.
“A wonderful experience from the moment you set sail, FAR: Changing Tides builds out the world and gameplay ideas of its predecessor with scale, detail and awesome moments of discovery. Okomotive has started with its original neat mechanic about a left-to-right juggernaut, then taken it in every other direction it could go.”
< Nintendo Life eShop Selects – February 2022
How we decide our eShop Selects top three: As we reach the end of every month, the Nintendo Life staff vote on their favourite titles from a list of games selected by the editorial team. To qualify for this list, these games must have been released as a digital-only Nintendo Switch eShop title in that particular month, and must have been reviewed on Nintendo Life; we select the qualifying games based on their review scores.
Staff are then asked to vote for three games that they think deserve to sit right at the very top of that list; first choice gets 3 points, second choice gets 2 points, and third choice gets 1 point. These votes are then tallied to create a top three list, with the overall winner taking that month’s top prize.
