CI Games has announced that Lords of the Fallen 2 release has been pushed to 2023. The game, which was announced in 2014, was originally set for release in 2017 but changed developers and platforms during the course of production. It was then expected to launch in 2021 but will now release next year for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Lords of the Fallen 2 release is expected to boost the franchise
CI Games seems to have pinned a lot of hopes on Lords of the Fallen 2’s release. In its latest financial report, the company revealed that this is its “largest ever project” which will capitalize on the genre’s popularity. Lords of the Fallen 2 will be fully priced at launch but the studio didn’t say if it’s eyeing a $60 or a $70 price tag.
“With the original entry garnering a player base of over 10 million players, it is vitally important that we re-engage this audience with the upcoming entry, while also capitalizing on the significant expansion of the action-RPG genre since the original’s release,” the financial report reads. “Lords of the Fallen 2 will encompass a range of significant upgrades, including a new dark-fantasy aesthetic in keeping with the prevailing action-RPG tone, alongside a fully revised, more challenging combat system.” Promotional activities for the game will commence in Q1 2022, with CI Games undertaking research to better understand the IP’s market.
Lords of the Fallen 2 was originally being developed in collaboration with Defiant Games. In 2020, Defiant was replaced with Hexworks, a new subsidiary of CI Games. According to the report, Hexworks boasts a highly experienced team of industry veterans from all over the world who specialize in action RPGs.
In other news, Shadowrun Trilogy is all set to make its PlayStation debut, and a bug is causing digital games to expire on the PS3 and PS Vita.
