Headcannon, known for its work on Sonic Mania alongside the mobile versions of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, has confirmed its involvement with the upcoming Sonic Origins.

The compilation, due for release on June 23rd, will include the classic mainline games with various added bits and bobs, including a widescreen ‘Anniversary Mode’. Headcannon has confirmed via Twitter that it has worked with SEGA to re-create Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles for the collection, thus completing the “remastering” of the mainline titles.

This will no doubt be good news for fans of the franchise, as Headcannon’s involvement with the series has largely been met with positive reception. In our review for Sonic Mania, we called the game a “true return to form for the mascot”, awarding it a 9/10.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 remains one of the most celebrated entries to the long-running series, so to see it being given the “remastered” treatment from Headcannon is a lovely surprise, to say the least.

Let us know what you make of Sonic Origins and Headcannon’s involvement with the game, and whether you plan on picking up the compilation on June 23rd.
