Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya has a new message for anyone considering playing Bayonetta 3 – make sure you play the first two games.

Yes, although he’s said something similar already this year, he just wanted to say it “again”, to make things loud and clear. If you have played through Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2, you’ll naturally enjoy the story “100 times more”.

Here’s the Google translation:

“Somehow I wanted to say this again, but if you are thinking of playing “Bayonetta 3”, I definitely want you to play “Bayonetta 1” and “Bayonetta 2″ by now … I think that person can enjoy the story 100 times more”

Speaking to IGN Japan in February, Kamiya also mentioned then how Bayonetta 3 would be a much “more interesting” experience for returning players.

Here’s exactly what he had to say at the time, courtesy of a translation from VGC:

“I’d like you to play Bayonetta 3 after you’ve played the previous games. We wrote the storylines for the first and second games in a way that you could enjoy them regardless of which one you started with, and there’s no reason why you won’t be able to follow the story and enjoy it if you start with Bayonetta 3. But I’m convinced that if you’ve played Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 you’ll find it even more interesting. So I hope you’ll [play them to] prepare yourself for the third game. If you haven’t played the first and second games, I think you’ll be missing out.”

Bayonetta 3 is currently still on track for a 2022 release. Do you think we’ll be seeing it any time soon? Will you be taking Kamiya’s advice and playing (or perhaps replaying) the first two games before even starting the third one?
