“Matchpoint Tennis Championships serves up a smooth-playing and simple-to-control game of tennis – to the point where you have to go out of your way to miss a shot – but saddles it with a career mode that’s so lacking in spectacle and any sense of meaningful progression that it almost made me wish I’d taken a desk job instead. Multiplayer matches are more dynamic but noticeably light on options, and the complete lack of doubles play severely diminishes any appeal it may have had for game night gatherings on the couch. There’s a solid baseline to build on in the future, but Matchpoint Tennis Championships ultimately feels like a tentative first serve for the series.”
