F1 22 may not quite have hit the heights of those games that preceded it, but it’s still a brilliant replication of the global sport – one that will have petrolheads racing for months on end. Today though the base F1 22 experience is expanding, with the addition of two new – and totally free – circuits.

Already having the option of playing through the career in F1 22, to take part in some time trialling, to race some supercars and to take to the online world, if there’s some F1 racing you are looking to get involved with, it’s F1 22. Perhaps the tacked on addition of F1 Life didn’t go down as well as intended, but it’s hard to fault what EA and Codemasters have created when you consider the on-track action.

But it’s that which is getting a little boost from today, with the arrival of Portugal’s Portimao circuit. Dropping into the game for free from today, you’ll be able to race the same tarmac as the F1 stars did back in 2020 and 2021, when the pandemic-revived F1 calendar headed to the Algarve.

Running at some 4.68km in length, the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve is a bit of a rollercoaster of a ride, testing your racing skills in more ways than one.

Further to that, we’ll also find China’s Shanghai International Circuit arriving in-game on September 12th 2022. Again, that one will arrive for free as Codies go about boosting the options available to gamers.

“We know our players love the thrill of competing on more circuits, and they don’t get much better than Portimao,” said Lee Mather, F1® Senior Creative Director at Codemasters. “Portimao is highly revered with a proud history, and our players will love the challenge of taking the 2022-designed cars onto the hallowed circuit for the first time.”

F1 22 is currently available to purchase, download and play on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and PC. The Xbox Store will provide us Xbox gamers with the download we need.

Let us know in the comments if you will be firing up your cars and taking a trip to either Portugal or China. It’s well worth taking in the trailer below too. It puts you in the hotseat of Lewis’ Mercedes W13.
