It always felt like a bit of a race between The Callisto Protocol and the remake of Dead Space as to which one would appear first. Surely, their fan bases are almost identical, being the games are very similar. But one is out of the gates first, and we can find out how that fares as The Callisto Protocol releases today on Xbox, PlayStation and PC.

Set on one of the moons of Jupiter, The Callisto Protocol is a survival horror game set in the year 2320. Whilst it was going to be set in the same universe as PUBG, that is no longer the case. It is its own self-contained story now.

Players play as Jacob Lee who, through some unusual circumstances finds himself in the Black Iron prison on Callisto. His day gets worse when the inmates start transforming into murderous and horrific monstrosities, and he must fight his way through them to discover the secrets of the prison and the moon itself.

The Callisto Protocol features a mixture of melee and ranged combat. As you progress through the narrative, Jacob will acquire new weapons to slice and dice the enemies is bloody, visceral combat.

Now, listen up. There are several different version of The Callisto Protocol on the Xbox Store, and some are platform dependant. First up is The Callisto Protocol for Xbox One, priced at £49.99 on the Xbox Store. Then there is the Digital Deluxe Edition for £69.99 that comes with the Season Pass included, again for Xbox One.

If you want to play The Callisto Protocol on Xbox Series X|S, you will need some different links. The base game is priced at £54.99 and can be found here. There is also a Digital Deluxe Edition for Xbox Series X|S and this is priced at £79.99. This also includes the Season Pass, but also The Callisto Protocol for Xbox One. The Season Pass can also be purchased separately for £23.49. It comes with a new skin, new Contagion and Riot game mode, additional death animations and some as yet unannounced story DLC.
