Square Enix has announced changes to the payment processor that’s used for the Final Fantasy 14 Mog Station and Online Store. While this wouldn’t usually be that newsworthy, many players are getting excited because it ties in with rumors from earlier this month that the game’s subscription would merge with Final Fantasy 11 and that a remake of the latter is in the works.

When will the payment changes take place?

The Final Fantasy 14 payment changes will occur at the end of February 2023. From this point onwards, those who start a new recurring subscription or update their existing subscription will be switched to the new method. At some point in the future, the old payment processor will be phased out and players will need to update their subscriptions to keep it active. The JCB, Carte Bleue, and SEPA (Sofort) payment methods will no longer be accepted, although players can continue to use Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, PayPal, Amazon Pay, and Paysafecard. Square Enix asks that any issues with this are resolved through the Square Enix Support Center.

Players believe these payment processor changes are indicative of the Final Fantasy XI/Final Fantasy XIV Subscription Unity Project that is rumored to be announced during the 35th anniversary presentation happening on February 7. A leak suggested that Final Fantasy XI Beginnings Rework Project will be amongst multiple games announced during the same presentation, rather than a brand new MMORPG. Square Enix is yet to comment on the Final Fantasy 11 remake rumors, but we have just two weeks left before we find out whether they were true.
