Square Enix producer Tetsuya Nomura has teased that a sequel to Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins is possible. In a recent Japanese broadcast of the game, celebrating the release of the third and last Different Future DLC, Nomura opened the door to a follow-up to the Final Fantasy offshoot.
A Stranger of Paradise sequel will depend on fan support, says Nomura
As translated by Noisy Pixel, Nomura believes that a swell of fan support for the game would provide a path for a sequel to Stranger of Paradise:
…I’m pleased to say that everyone watching this livestream has grown very fond of Jack and his friends. So much so that some would love to see a sequel of [the title].
…If word of mouth about the game spreads through the DLC’s completion, proving that this is a title that has really resonated with everyone, there may be a time when we can meet again.
Specifically, he asked viewers to spread positive words about the game “to 10 other people.” This would help counteract “a lot of the negative bashing” that the game received online when it first launched. Nomura also says that he would love working with Koei Tecmo’s Nobumichi Kumabe again.
PSLS’s Jason Faulker scored Stranger of Paradise a fair 7.5/10 in his review, praising its unique take on Final Fantasy 1 and satisfying combat but criticizing its graphics and odd story moments. Trials of the Dragon King, the first DLC in the game’s Season Pass, released in July 2022.
