It has been almost 4 months since Nintendo has updated the firmware of the Nintendo Switch. Obviously, the holiday season had a role to play in that. However, another reason is that Nintendo did technically release an update of some kind during that 4 month period, courtesy of a “rebootless” update that was launched in mid-December.

That said, Nintendo has decided to release a firmware update tonight. Once you update, your console’s firmware should be at version 16.0.0. As for the patch notes, you may be surprised to hear that they don’t really have much. You can see them in full down below, nevertheless.

  • User nicknames that cannot be used will be replaced with “???” which can be updated from the profile settings.
  • General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.
