Cutting and adding content to video games is part and parcel of the development process, often resulting in players finding unused assets in games. There’s a misconception that content is cut to the detriment of games, and Cyberpunk 2077 has seen similar speculations. One CD Projekt RED developer has decided to address those concerns.
Cyberpunk 2077 content was cut for a good reason
“Unused content is unused for a reason,” CD Projekt RED’s Pawel Sasko said during a Twitch stream (via PCGamesN). He told fans that content is cut when “the quality is not there, you can see that there’s no way to bring it up to [the same quality as the other] nine out of ten quests, or locations, or gameplay features.”
Sasko added that it’s a designer’s responsibility to make the judgment call, and players should know that if anything is cut from a game, there’s nothing sinister behind it.
“We normally want to make our games as rich and as deep as we can for you,” Sasko continued. “We want to provide you with the best possible game we have, that’s always the goal.”
Cyberpunk 2077 is set to receive Phantom Liberty DLC. More news is expected in June.
