Japan’s Cabinet Office has said that it recorded a 2.8% GDP increase during the period of April to June 2023, compared to the previous quarter for personal consumption. Japanese news site Mainichi Shinbun reports that the growth could be attributed to the massive sales success of the critically acclaimed, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The period for the increase of GPD was from April to June 2023. The site says that one of the Japanese Cabinet Office officials attributed the significant growth to large “new releases” of video game software from various Japanese companies including Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Capcom’s Street Fighter V, and Square Enix’s long-awaited Final Fantasy XVI. Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was so highly-anticipated in Japan that people reported on social networking services that they took a holiday from work to play Link’s latest adventure, with ‘Zelda holiday’ becoming a trending topic on social media.
