This is meant to celebrate the console’s online games and communities throughout the years. In just a few hours, players can enjoy online multiplayer without a PS Plus subscription.

When can players start playing free PS5 multiplayer matches?

The free PS5 multiplayer weekend begins September 21, 2024, and lasts until September 22. Players who don’t own PS5, don’t fret. This offer extends to PS4 players as well. This means anyone who owns a PS4 or PS5 can enjoy online multiplayer modes from any game they own without a PS Plus subscription.

During the free period, Sony is hosting a series of PS5 esports tournaments. Games like NBA 2K25, Madden NFL 24, MLB The Show 24, EA UFC 5, Tekken 8, and Guilty Gear Strive are featured. Players who compete during the weekend and win a special 30th anniversary themed avatar and other game specific prizes. Anyone interested can find open spots on the PS5 Game Hub.

Players who find themselves enjoying the free PS5 multiplayer weekend can sign up for one of three PS Plus membership plans. PS Plus Essential is the lowest tier, giving players free monthly games, online multiplayer, and exclusive discounts at $9.99 a month. PS Plus Extra features the Game Catalog and Ubisoft Plus Classics in addition to Essential’s offerings for $14.99 a month. PS Plus Premium gives players the full Game Catalog that features classic PlayStation titles, game trials, and cloud streaming, as well as everything from Extra for $17.99 a month.

Players who subscribe to PS Plus Essential this month receive two games with online multiplayer. Harry Potter Quidditch Champions, and MLB The Show 24 are this month’s offerings for the subscription service.

PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary celebration goes beyond a free PS5 multiplayer weekend. Sony recently revealed a stunning PS5 Pro console themed after the original PlayStation. The themed console includes both DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers, charging station, vertical stand, and other special collector’s items all packed in a box that is a clear homage to the original PlayStation console.
