It is no secret Microsoft is bringing some of its most beloved games to PS5. Games like Diablo VI and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 are just two of the most recent examples. However, it seems one of Microsoft’s longest running franchises might be coming to Sony’s current gaming platform.

Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition may be coming to PS5

It seems the beloved RTS Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition is coming to PS5. In a recent reddit thread from draconis90, they posted a screenshot of players sporting the PlayStation icon next to their usernames in game. It is not yet confirmed by Microsoft if the game is coming to Sony’s platform.

Within the thread, someone did confirm that these two players were real. It is uncertain how or why these players are playing Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition on a PlayStation platform. The most logical conclusion is these two users are either playtesters or developers checking out the port.

The Verge’s Tom Warren reported earlier this year that a number of Microsoft’s games were coming to PS5 in an effort internally known as Project Latitude. The first set included Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, and Grounded. Warren’s sources also mentioned Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition as another candidate, which seems to be coming to fruition.

This would not be the first time Age of Empires 2 came to a PlayStation platform. Back in 2001, the Ensemble Studios developed RTS was release for the PS2 with Konami as the publisher. The game originally launched for PC in 1999.

Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition is a remaster of the original 1999 release. Developed by World’s Edge and Forgotten Empires, it launched in 2019 for PC. It eventually came to Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S in 2023. It garnered decent reviews receiving an 84 on Metacritic.
